From Spinal Fusion Fear to Pain Free: It's the Magic of Pilates!
After years of chronic, debilitating low back pain and a devastating diagnosis that foreshadowed fusion surgery in my mid-30's, I developed a deep love and appreciation for the power of Pilates. Here's my story of how Pilates has changed my life, and lives around me as I share the magic!
I started my Pilates practice for relief from the debilitating pain after years of other failed treatments. Within a month, I was practically pain free. I no longer needed fusion surgery! Consistent practice and working with knowledgeable instructors was key to my recovery. That’s why I love Golden PT & Pilates, all the instructors are committed to staying up to date with their education and Carrie schedules in office hours for us to learn and grow from each other in our practice and teaching. The physical therapists here are “magic” as my daughter and I like to say! One touch from Nancy, and I’m back to loving life.
When I decided to become a Pilates instructor, my oldest daughter was diagnosed with juvenile scoliosis. She was devastated and we had a long road ahead with bracing, scoliosis specific therapy, and a lot of tears and frustration for her early teen years. I was finishing my training and beginning my teaching career as we started her specialized physical therapy. The PT we were working with in MN used my training to my daughter's advantage and we were able to do a lot of her therapy at home. It was also at this time that we learned suspension training would greatly benefit my daughter, so I became TRX certified as well. We got through the tough years, and with a lot of tenacity, I'm happy to report that my daughter's main curve improved from 30 degrees to just 16 degrees. She's now in her 20's and healthy, happy, and pain free.
Over my years of teaching Pilates, I’ve found my home at Golden PT & Pilates. The community here is so caring and kind, and with our amazing small classes, I've been so incredibly impressed at the progress my clients have made. It's refreshing to get to know my clients so well and understand their challenges to best help them reach their goals. There’s nothing more rewarding than to see them not only leave class smiling and feeling better than when they came in, but to also reach their dreams of traveling to all 50 states after not being able to get out of bed by themselves, walk with confidence (and balance!) after time spent in a wheelchair, or feel relief from back pains like mine. Life is meant for adventures, and Pilates helps me see the world and stay active!
